About The Provider
Dr. Fraga is a Professor of Dermatology and Pathology and Vice-Chair of the UMKC Department of Dermatology at University Health.
Dr. Fraga obtained his B.A. degree from Swarthmore College, his M.D. from the University of Chicago, and his master’s degree in clinical research from the University of Kansas. He is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in applied statistics and data analysis at the University of Kansas. Dr. Fraga completed his post-graduate training in pathology at the University of Kansas and his fellowship training in dermatopathology at the University of Virginia. With over 20 years of clinical practice experience, he is a former president of the Kansas City Society of Pathologists and has interpreted more than 200,000 skin biopsy specimens.
Dr. Fraga is dedicated to meaningful research and medical education. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles and is on the editorial board of the leading dermatopathology journal, the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology. His publications in the Journal have ranked among the top 10 most cited studies annually. Dr. Fraga's master’s thesis on transparency in reporting diagnostic accuracy studies received the award for the best thesis in his class. Recognized for his excellence in teaching, he was honored with the “Mighty Punch” award by medical students at the University of Kansas. He has also served as the program director for the pathology residency training program at the University of Kansas, mentoring over 100 dermatology and pathology residents. His current research focuses on meta-analysis of biomarkers and variance in dermatopathology reporting.
Dr. Fraga values collaboration with other dermatopathologists and actively participates in the American Society of Dermatopathology. He has contributed to their quality assurance, finance, and abstract review committees. Dr. Fraga is among a select group of dermatopathologists chosen to instruct the ASDP annual review course and has delivered numerous national presentations on melanoma, skin cancer, and the dermatopathology laboratory.
He was recently recognized on Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors list.
